GEOLOGY For Sun Bathers…..
You will recall from Blog #3 that the MOON-MAKER was the Mars-Sized asteroid that made it past the gas giant Planet sentries who usually stop such intrusions into the realms of our Sun’s inner rocky planets, that includes our home planet Earth. A good modern example is the 1974 Shoemaker-Levy Comet attempt to get past the gas giants to crash into Earth. It is fortunate for us that Jupiter was in the right position for its gravity to break up the comet and to drag its 21 huge pieces down into its own gassy depths, and not Earth’s.
But the huge ancient MOON-MAKER Asteroid made it through to wreak havoc down upon Earth by scavenging a huge bite with which to construct the Moon. In so doing the Pacific Ocean Basin was left behind along with a variety of Hot Spot Plumes that opened up from the huge impact shock, the most noteworthy being the Hawaii Hot Spot. The impact also sent huge pieces of first time Continental Plates drifting away at finger nail grow speed to far reaches where a billion years later they came crashing back together again to form the supercontinents of Gondwana and Pangaea where most life on land would take place, in spite of multiple extinctions, over the next 500 million years.
